The idea behind min buying is to beat the table with the table's money. If you min buy for $40 at $200NL all you are trying to do is get your money in with the best hand alot of players will call an all in from a short stack that they might not call a $40 reraise from a larger stack. It's a good way to get calls on big pairs. Once you get your chips up to an average stack, everything else you're doing is icing on the cake. If you should happen to lose, oh well you only really lost $40. It doesn't work everytime but it can be an effective strategy
