Re: Going to Church - Trip Report - Long, crappy cliff notes

sorry to say, but i severely dislike your wife, at least based on the actions in your post.
my only response to "honey, lets go to church" would be a resounding "HELL NO". and the way you describe your views, so should yours. what exactly are the "positive qualities" that church instills in your kids? they basically teach two things: 1- dont be an ass (which i wholly agree with) and 2- god is a bazillion times more awesome than you and it is he that is running the show, not you (which is a load of bs, to say the least). i could go into a gigantic rant here about the severe retardedness of organized religion, but lets just skip all that.
you really shouldnt let your wife push religion on you or your kids like that. marriage is about compromise and all that and there's stuff thats fair game to push on your spouse like weekends with relatives and whatnot, but religion definitely isnt one of those.

Its rather strange to dislike my wife because she's asking me to hold up my end of a bargain I had already agreed to. I don't think its the proper plan to suddenly decide that I am not going to do this five years later. That's totally unfair to her. And you make it sound like she's bible thumping the word of the lord into their heads or something. She's asked us to go to chruch roughly once a year. Oh no! The tragedy! To a 3 and 4 year old, church in general teaches people to be nice to each other, and that there's some guy named God that seems to be all about this idea of being nice, and that he can make them feel safe.
Slightly brainwashing? Eh, maybe, but not much at that age. Instead its a good shiny happy people feeling that is good for a child. And when they get to be 12 or so and start questioning the universe and religion like most young teenagers do, I get to talk to them about all of the different religions out there, what I have experience with, and in general that they need to believe in what their heart and mind tells them to beleive in, not what I, their mother, or anyone else says they should.
And if the wife starts causing problems at that point, THEN you can dislike her.
