My wife has pet rats. I think they're cool. She has them trained to do little tricks, they know their names and respond when called, and they seem genuinely to enjoy our company. She wanted to get a dog but our schedules wouldn't be fair to the dog. She did the research and decided on a couple rats. To my surprise, they make excellent pets.
