cats have an incredible strength to weight ratio. couple that with those claws and teeth and even normal housecats can be badasses.

Their fangs are more dangerous than they seem. Wanna hear my cat beat?

I had to go to the hospital for a couple days over a horrible bathtime incident. I was put there by a particularly small cat, weighing in at only 4.5 pounds (and I'm an overweight 250 pounder).

Let me just say this: the scruff of the neck is the ONLY safe way to restrain a pissed-off cat.

So, as ridiculous as it sounds, I was dunking my cat into the sink for her semi-annual bathing and wasn't holding her right. So, she found the nearest meaty part of me and sank her fangs in down to the bone.

Some cats don't mind the water so much but that one hates it like pocket kings hate an ace on the board. I never stood a chance.

Later that day, the infection set in, so I made a doc appointment for the next day, just thinking I'd get some antibiotics and be sent on my way. There, I was told there was danger of damage to the tendon sheaths running through my palm, and I needed intreveinous antibiotics immediately, plus close examination by a specialist. Tendon damage could cause me to lose the effective use of one or more fingers.

I need to type a lot in my profession, so losing function of part of a hand would suck big time.

So, I laid up in bed for nearly three days, being pumped full of hardcore antibiotics and with the spectre of surgery hanging over my hand.

Hell of a beat, but mitigated by quality health coverage.
