Re: Recommend 5 songs that you think everyone should listen to....
Fulsom Prison Blues (Live of course) - Johnny Cash
Might be the greatest song I have ever heard. It has meaning and purpose and is being sung to an audience that appreciates every word.
My Wife and My Dead Wife - Robyn Hitchcock
I am a huge Hitchcock fan, and some people just don't get him. This song is the dividing line. Some people see it as an almost nonsense song. It is really a touching and wonderful song about losing someone, or losing a relationship.
Welcome to the Terrordome - Public Enemy
The most viscerally powerful rap song. The lyrics don't make sense if you read them, but in the context of the music it just works. I give Mike Tyson props for using this as his entrance song.
Motel 6 - Cub
How Cub did not become a household name is beyond me. Listen to it just because they are impossible not to like. It isn't deep or important, but it is great feel good music.
Underwater Moonlight - The Soft Boys
I considered The Replacements, Color Me Impressed for the last spot, but I think most everyone has heard it. This whole album is just a miracle for its time. Yes it is Robyn Hitchcock again, but this album is just a wonderful and strange prelude to what would become alternative rock. The title song of the album is the best example for most people, without the weirdness of many of the tracks.
