I don't play the tourneys very often but I've noticed that they don't sell out at 5:30 p.m. like they used to. Sometimes I hear them announcing seats open at 6:50. Likely they want to try changing things around. I understand your position. Play can be wild during the re-buy period and it takes a sophisticated tourney player (I'm not one of them) to know if the add-on is worth it in a particular situation.
If they don't lower the initial buy-in it'll also dramatically increase the cost.
