Correct. If you bet on someone at -4.5, and they win by 4, you lose. If you bet on someone at +4.5, and they lose by 4, you win. The points are handicapping the contest. Otherwise, noone would ever bet on the game between the worst and best time because everyone assumes the best team will win.
