Helmuth is primarily a NLHE tournament player. Doyle is primarily a cash game player, and is a more successful and accomplished player than Helmuth. Helmuth plays well against amateur players, which is probably why he specializes in tournaments.

Hellmuth won most of his bracelets against fields of 150-250 pros back in the late 80s and throughout the 90s.

There were less fish in the tournaments at the time Helmuth won those bracelets, but most top players did not play a lot of tournaments. Brunson has been around for a while, but I believe all his bracelets are in high buyin events. Hellmuth is a very strong players, but I wouldn't put him at the same level as Brunson, although it is all kind of subjective.

As for the OP's complaint, obviously Brunson is repected based on other things than his play, and Helmuth is not.
