Default Re: Flameout in life and in Poker (VERY LONG)

Since the thread has been at least partly hijacked....

If you truly seek Him with all your heart He will reveal Himself to you.

I realize I'm late to the party, but this is one of my pet peeves about religion pushers. If someone seeks, but doesn't find, then they didn't truly seek; IOW, "I have The Truth(tm), and if you don't believe me, it's all your fault"! I don't know what this God person of yours expects, but I was a faithful, believing Mormon for a long while, and when I finally saw through that, I was devastated and lost. I spent the next couple of years searching and studying different religions, and trying to find God, literally begging Him to point me in the right direction. Eventually, I came to realize that all religions sell basically the same product in different packaging, and they all offer equally "good" evidence in their favor: none whatsoever. You tell me why you don't believe in Allah or Zeus, and then maybe you'll have a chance of figuring out why I don't believe in your God. Or maybe not.

Basically, I have to believe that the Bible is telling the truth, therefore God exists; since God exists and He inspired the Bible, therefore the Bible is telling the truth. Substitute the Q'uran and Allah in the above, and you get equally good "logic", and equally good reason to accept Islam instead of Christianity.

Which God someone finds greatly depends on which God those "helping" the seeker follow.

There flame on I'm getting pretty good at defending my faith both scientificaly, and theologically.

Scientifically: Maybe to your own satisfaction. Certainly not objectively; if there were solid objective proof of your beliefs, everyone would believe them. It's called "faith" because there is no proof. "Faith is the evidence of things unseen." IOW, if you believe it, that's all the evidence you need. Is there any other position for which you would consider that sufficient evidence?

Theologically: That's your department, and irrelevant.

P.S. -- Loved the "vulture" response; it's absolutely spot-on. Any time a religion pusher sees someone in a vulnerable state, it's time to leap into action and take advantage before a competitor beats him to it.
