Default Re: A few thoughts on rascism / affirmative action

[ QUOTE ]
Call me crazy, but color shouldn't be a factor in the decision, and it should be based solely on who is most qualified-- whether white, black, purple, pink, or burnt orange.

[/ QUOTE ]

The problem with this lies in how it is enforced. Whether someone was "discriminated" against is very much dependant on who's asking (and who the jury and lawyer are).

There are also conditions when race is a qualification. Let us say that a person opens a Chinese restaurant, and, in trying to develop the decor of the place, wants an all-asian waitstaff. Even if a certain white, black or hispanic fellow could take orders and communicate with the patrons better, they would not be as ideal for the restaurant as the slanty-eyed fellow bringing you your flied lice. There are film and theater (and even porn) roles that require someone to look a certain way.

Now I agree that blanket racism is a bad thing. Duh, hence the OP. However, I believe it is the responsibility of the people to cast aside their own irrational judgements; not the responsibility of the government. Businesses that do not hire based on merit will inevitably suffer, starve and die on their own; I see no reason to stop it.

Society has been in an upward motion toward the acceptance of different colors, creeds and lifestyles for a long time, and I believe it will continue to do so on its own. The real disease is racial hatred, and that is something that no government legislation can cure.

Legalizing suicide will not result in everyone killing themselves.
