This is untrue. I can usually get a decent minimal read on everyone at the table in about an orbitt and have a reasonable profile by 50 hands. Is it 100% accurate? No. Is it good enough to inform many decisions? Absolutely.

The thing is that the information you get by watching somebody play for an orbit can be quite a bit different than just the PT stats. If I see somebody pay off three streets with TPMK a few hands in, that tells me something a lot more specific than how many hands they've been playing. Over a small chunk of hands, the raw PT stats aren't likely to be too informative.
