Never thought about this one, but while watching a WWI documentary this afternoon, it occurred to me Germany's biggest mistake in WWII was actually made in 1917 when they arranged it so that Lenin could hijack the Russian Revolution. If not for the communists being in charge, Russia would undoubtedly still have been a weak country 25 years later.

Talk about your short term gain and long term loss.
