I disagree. This was good publicity for their new poker room, which they wanted to establish for mid-high stakes players. Also, where it is true that the first games were played in the back of the room, I was there for one of the last games which was being played on a table next to the rail, and there was a large group of spectators watching the game.

Spectators are fans. Players are customers. Someone who wants to watch a famous person play(fan) is not the same as someone who wants to get into a game with a famous person(customer). Do things to get loyal customers, and the rest will fall into place.
