it's not a safety for the same reason that if peyton would've been picked up and carried into the end zone it wouldn't have been a safety.

That's why Dierdorf confused me when he talked about where Manning's feet were. I tried nfl.com for an explanation on safeties, but couldn't find anything on body positioning versus the ball. I've always been under the impression it was about where the ball was.
