The job market depends on what you want to do and will change by Sep. 07 anyway.
The housing market is somewhat overbuilt IMHO and there are lots of speculators who just want to rent out their houses for whatever they can get, which seems to be keeping rent prices reasonable. Some real good deals out there esp. if you are willing to share a place. Check craigslist to get a sense of current prices. But who knows what it will be like a year from now.
If you go the traditional apartment complex route, they may require 3-6 months rent up front if you don't have a job yet.
Overall, unless you plan to live large, $10,000 should be fine to get you started.
