I understand what you are saying now. Yes, one definitely has to be careful when signing players to large deals. I'd have to look it up for exact numbers. But if the Rangers let Ozolinsh, Poti & Sykora loose and then replace them with Chara ($5 million a year), Pock & Dawes/Immonnen they will still be about 4-5 million under.

Jagr is pulling in about 7 million a year. The Rangers are paying about $4 million of that, the Caps are picking up the rest. It's probably the best contract situation in all of the NHL. $4 million counts against the Rangers cap. I'm not sure if the remaining difference counts against the Caps or not.
