where I play it's

+divide into eams
+to 10 by ones
+if there's 12 people sub every 4 baskets regardless of who makes (e.g. 4-0 2-2 or 3-1 and then other multiples of 4)
+offense calls the fouls
+no arguing fouls
+win the first game = stay. but two games and you sit, unless the team waiting lacks six people - then shoot free throws to see who stays on the new team;

At another place I've also played to 14 with 2s and threes;
no subs; defense calls the fouls.

at a third place you shoot free throws to see who plays.

e.g. no such thing as standard rules. there are also not standard rules for 21 (aka hustle).

It helps if you call screens. no one can agree on whether you're supposed to switch on the screen role or stay on your guy.
