Kansas City Casinos

I'll be in KC for a few days on business, staying about 5 minutes from the airport. How far away are the nearest casinos? Worth the trouble?

Thanks

Ameristar is very very nice and about 20 minutes from the airport with a good poker room. Harrah's is about 25 minutes away, less nice, but they also have a decent poker room.

Ameristar has 3-6 and 4-8 kill games and a 15-30 game. They also have 2/5 NL, but generally Harrah's is preferred for NL. Harrah's also spreads 3-6. Ameristar has a betting line and it is religiously enforced.

Worth the trouble? Yes. Both Ameristar and Harrah's are very easy to get to. Just take the expressway south and get off at Armour Boulevard, and go East, following the signs. I personally prefer Harrah's over Ameristar. Harrah's management seems nicer, and there is no bad beat drop on the no-limit games at Harrah's, so I can save some on rake. Rake is 10% up to 4 dollars, plus a 1 dollar bad beat drop at Ameristar. Both casinos are nice. Avoid Isle of Capri. It's referred to as Isle of Debri or Isle of Crappy, locally.

Are all the KC area casinos in Missouri, and therefore subject to that bizarre $500 max buy-in rule?

Yes, all the casinos are on the Missouri side, and have this stipulation. As soon as you get there, buy-in for the full $500 and then you can buy-in for $500 every 2 hours begining on the even hours (10-12-2...). This still holds true if you just bought in at 9:59. One minute later you can buy another $500 in chips. $500 is fine for you to sit at any N/L game. If your opening a new table for the day, the buy-in is $100-$300 on a $2-5 blind table. If you sit at a table that's already running, you have the same minimum ($100) buy-in but have the option to buy-in for up to 75% of the big stack at the table. Great rule I've not seen in other card rooms (except the no max Vegas games). Great room with plenty of tables going all night. Blows Ameristar away for N/L.

Yeah people playing in my room always rave about the action at that game with the 75% rule. Sounds like a good idea to me.
