Im gonna assume you were BB? Turn raise looks pretty reasonable, big draw and gets you a free showdown with your 5 if you whiff and he likely checks river.

So no, you are not chip spewing idiot.

If this opponent isn't the type to play back at you with anything less than a monster, then this play is wonderful. If he'd fold an 8/T/better 5 it's even better. Against AT you're roughly 40% to take the pot anyway, and that Jh is the scariest of scarecards, so good FE.
Even if you lose, you're setting yourself up with action for future hands on a +EV play.

I like it.

And yes, you're more than likely a chip spewing idiot. Join the club.

Looks fine. You've got so many outs that the cost to semi-bluff is pretty low.

Just wanted to add that you could very well have the best hand in this situation and i would play the same way.

The way you played it, I'd probably raise the turn. I'm not sure I would have called pre-flop, it would have depended how aggressive SB is going after blinds.

My main question, though, is why not raise the flop? At that point, all you have is a small pair, no other great draws. If you're not behind (and most likely you aren't) your opponent almost certainly has two cards greater than your five. Make him pay to try to pair one of them. If you had paired your queen, I could see calling and trying to raise on the turn, but not with such a low pair like that.

prettty standard really. Sometimes I raise the flop, sometimes the turn.

Ive got another line I like to take here which is call all the way. I usually only use that one vs people who like to open almost any 2 cards and fire all barrels.

turn raise seems very pointless to me. is he ever folding a better hand? i find it really doubtful. the only purpose a turn raise serves is that if you connect on the river youll get an extra bet when he would have checkcalled or bet/folded.

tstone - some ppl will just put him on a flushdraw and will be completely incapable of folding ace hi, king hi, or a worse pair of 5s here

Don't like it, he has a pair too often here. For example, {55+,A5s+,A8o+,K8s+,K9o+,Q8s+,Q9o+,J8s+,J8o+,T8s+, T8o+,98s,87s,76s} has you beat 70% of the time. Don't expect him to fold anything that beats you.
