Another \'moving up in limits\'/br management thread
First of all, I play sngs, ring games, and Mtt.
Lets focus on ring games. Greg suggests we should move up in limits as our bankroll allows. I have been experimenting with that concept for about a year. Started at .01/.02 .5/.10 ... 1/2, 2/4, finally 3/6 So after about 1.5k hands at .25/.5 I move up to .5/1 about the same and move up to 1/2. Its a little tougher, so 3.2k hands and 5.14bb/100 and I move up to 2/4. Well 1k hands later and Im 9.28bb/100 (Obviously unsunstainable, but nevertheless I have plenty to move up) so move up to 3/6 tonight and made a couple hundred $$s. Thus, Im willing to think the idea works, but I feel that with such a small hand size, this idea may backfire. Sure I can move back down if br drops, but what if I am making enough at certain level and are not sure of the risk/reward of moving up. What if this all just a sham created by the current bonus period at Stars and it all dries up in a few months? What are your feelings about moving up? P.S. I run goot 8) |

I don't see why you can't move up aggressively as long as you're willing to move back down if/when things turn sour.

Re: Another \'moving up in limits\'/br management thread
Personally, I think the play at PLO8 2k is just as bad as at lower levels, and that players at at LO8 $10-20 are just as bad as lower limits.
They get ever so slightly better as limits go up but the real change is in what bankroll allows. Every time I've aggressively moved up in limits it has been the correct decision. Although sometimes I have not moved back down fast enough. -Ergodicity will get you in the end |

Nice work so far.
Greg and I definitely see eye-to-eye on BR management, which is to say we both got into higher limit games by playing above BR in some sense. You are on a heater and even when not running perfect seem to be a very good player. So keep moving up, and hopefully you'll gain traction at a limit where you can quit your dayjob and get rich through internet poker... it should feel uncomfortable for a while when you get to the limit you should be playing at. |

Soo....update......
Got to $6.1k in June...1st week of June I crashed and burned playing too much SH (2-6 players) $10/20, I didnt move down fast enough and went busto. Won a freeroll. Grinded back. Put $400 in safety in my bro's account. Since have made it back and then some, but I have stuck for the last to $2/4-$5/10, sngs, and MTTs. Ive decided not to play $10/20 again until I have 500BBs. I now think that less than 250BBs per level is pressing it. Thoughts? |

HU/SH LO8 is high variance if played well.

Re: Another \'moving up in limits\'/br management thread
wiseheart...are u strictly an Omaha player? i ask because u mentioned a freeroll, and ive never seen one for any sort of Omaha anywhere.
anyway, your plan seems fine for BR management. i generally go for 500BB for L08 and 50BI for PLOHL (1-2 tabling). (for PL games i tend to wayyyyyy over compensate). gl on ur way up, just remember to drop down if u ever need to. |
Re: Another \'moving up in limits\'/br management thread
I play Holdem sometimes as well.
Im not particulary good at it, but despite that Im 3/5 on 1.5k FPP 9 person SnG freerolls to the sunday $215 and 1/1 on a $370 Satellite to the WSOP Sat which I traded for W$ and eventually for cash. I have asked Pokerstars to add FPP freerolls for Omaha/Omaha8, they said it was a good idea but nothing so far except the WCOOP stuff, which is still pretty cool, but Id like to see it more regular, so maybe if more people email them. |
