i should know what to do here...

...but sadly i don't.
party 100 f.o.

the only hand i played at the the table so far after getting moved about 20 hands ago,i have 4k,blinds 200/400,and i raise to 1200 in early position with AJ,big stack calls, shortstack goes all in for like 600 more,i push, big stack calls with 56 or something, shortstack has TT,i hit an A and am up to 10k..

so anyway, blinds 200/400,utg+2 makes it 1500,its folded to me on the button with 99
we both have about 10k,and i've no reads...what's the standard line here?

EP raise I don't like your hand if your chip stack isn't in desperate shape I'd fold. If you have like 12-15 bb etc... i like a push.

i don't really think 12-15bbs is desperate,obviously if i had 6bbs or something it'd be a push
it seems to me that nines might be too strong a hand to just fold here...

Ithink I would call here. since you have no reads, its safer to assume that the early raise does represent the stregth it should. Wait for the flop and use your position to take the hand if you can. If he checks, bet. The thing is here that, if you raise, the only hands that are invited to call are either better than yours or a coinflip. Range: AA-JJ, AK, AQs. So two thirds of the time you are a major under dog. This play can't be profitable if this is the case.

i'd be calling for about 15% of my stack though,i'd want to be pretty sure i was going to be able to take it away from him on the flop, and how can i be?
all i know is that he either has or is representing a premium hand,i dont even know what cards he'll be scared of...
the more i think about this i think i should probably just fold, which is what i did in the actual hand...
anyone think this is really wrong?

meh if you both had around 15-18k(you would actually have something close to set value, a very high variance play) I would say call and reevaluate a flop, with 5k or so I would push, with 10k I probably fold, I don't see a reason to get involved in this spot, especially because he seemed to pick a slightly larger than average raise(I would assume most normal raises are 1200 at this blind level).

Cheers!
John
