Bottom set against known aggressive player
 

First off, I don't normally play small pocket pairs in early position, so please don't comment on that - this table had a VPIP of 36% and some loose cannons at it though, so I thought if I hit my set, I could win a good sized pot. Villian in this hand has been known to be aggressive after the flop. My question is this: is this a good way to play bottom set? How could I have squeezed more bets out of this, if possible?

You could check raise the flop in an attempt to bring the BB along. Other than that, the line you took is good.

Easy flop checkraise with BB trapped in middle -- leading into aggressive villain offers him the perfect chance to raise and force out BB. As played, 3-bet the flop.

My preferred line would be to check the flop. The rest depends on BB.

Good preflop thinking. Now, HOW were you going to win a good-sized pot? Using this line? Or did you just ad lib this?

I'm not commenting on the line you took, as it's probably only a 1 or 2 SB swing, either way, and that probably works out about even, anyway. My point is, if you're going to engage in preflop thinking like this, it behooves you to have a plan as to how you're going to "win a good-sized pot."

(Ok, I can't help myself...a read on BB would help. If he's going to fold the flop, regardless, if he missed it, then betting out is fine. If you think he'll call one but not two, then you should c/r the flop and trap him between you and aggro-boy. Once you've made your decision about BB, you have to figure out UTG+2...once BB folds the only reason to smooth-call his flop raise is if you think he'll just call down if you 3-bet, in which case you want to c/r the turn, not donkbet. I can't decide whether UTG+2 is jackass enough (or you got lucky enough) that this line got you 2 extra BB on the turn, or whether you left bets on the table by not 3-betting the flop against a Villan that would continue to be aggressive until 3-bet on the turn with a hand like A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].)

If you think his flop raise means a big pair a lot of these time and he's very aggressive, then I think this is the best line heads up. However, illian can have AK here, or could puss out and not raise KK or AA on the turn, so it is somewhat of a parlay for this to be the best line.

If the pot is not heads up I like this line less and less. In general, you are giving up way too much value on the flop to not raise

I guess open limping with 22 is fine with how you described the table.
