JJ from early position with a bad flop:

Hi, this is my first post on these forums, and I was hoping I could get peoples opinions on this hand. As I've only just registered I am not overly familiar with etiquette etc, so if I've missed anything important out of my post, apologies in advance!

So to the hand, this happened last night to me, the villain had only just come to the table, so I didn't really know anything about him, I think this maybe was the third hand he was involved in, but the other two he had played quite aggresively.

The things I don't like about the way I played this hand are, firstly raising to 0.5 pf, this was actually a mistake and i meant to raise to 0.4 but I my mouse was playing up and I was going to run out of time.

On the flop my bet was ok I think, maybe a bit big, and I was expecting a call from someone who had a club and then I could put him all on the turn if a 4th club didnt come. Instead he minraised, should I fold to this bet?:

PF raise is fine, don't worry too much about it. You pretty much have to fold here. You have no club, that is a very very drawy board, and you're out of position. Let it go.

Hero folds, this isn't a good flop for you.

what would you do if you had red 99 here? Same hand...don't become attached to your Jacks!

Yeah that's what I thought afterwards with the benefit of more time to think it through, the minraise when he only had 3.74 left is saying he's going all the way with this hand, I think.

Not saying it was the case here - I severely doubt it was - but a minraise to a cbet gives probably the most powerful leverage for your money you can get postflop, so is an excellent device for pushing someone off a hand. Such a small amount of stack for such a clear declaration of 'I'm gonna stack you given half a chance'.

btw, yeah JJ is rarely worth chasing if an overcard lands, and the villain is biting back.

Yeah that's a good point Primogenito, I'm relatively new to this game and I think I might rate jacks a bit too highly

As it happened I called the raise:

Turn: ($5.15) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
Hero checks, MP3 bets $1.74 and is All-In
Hero?

Now what should I do? I have 4:1 to call. If he already has a flush or made a straight, I need about 5:1 to call and make a boat. Since he is all in I won't be able to make any more money if I do hit, so I should fold. On the other hand if he hasn't made his flush already and he misses on the river I should be winning right?

Nice turn easy call with those odds and you are ahead here much often than you think

Fold this PF in such an early position. CB in this spot is qustionable but ok IMO. Fold to raise.
