What game are they playing...?

I know the movie was terrible (I watch it on a transatlantic flight) but what game do they play in the movie "Lucky You"? The one Duvall and Bana play heads up (at the diner)

I dont know much about chinese poker but I don't think that was it because they didnt have that many cards( it didn't seem)

Some hybrid of guts and holdem I think (I don't know much about guts). I'm not sure of the exact rules.
