A8s on button 7 handed on bubble

on the bubble of a 249 man $20 rebuy, 21 runners left.

blinds 2k/4k, folded around to you with 32.5k with A8s on the button, SB has 26.4k behind, BB has 19.3k behind. Is this an auto push??

Without knowing average stack size and assuming a standard pay structure I can't think of any reasons not to push. In fact, there is no reason not to push anyway.

i shove... big blind snap calls with KK, hit the 8 pick up the flush draw on the turn but still miss and i end up bubbling being the very short stack a few hands later.

is it just unlucky that one of the blinds is holding a monster??

The question is if you plan to get ITM or if you play for first (not meant ironic!). If you play for first this is an easy push as the probability for one of the blinds to hold a monster is marginal and you are in need of chips.

If your main (!) target is simply getting ITM instead it may be a fold here. Are there many (real) smallstacks which are auto-all-in in one of the next rounds? Is the payout-structure flat enough that getting paid as 20th is good enough? Then you could fold here and wait until one of 20 busts before you´re blinded out. But remember that in the last case you´re preventing yourself from climbing higher in the payout-ladder.

But in general you should play at a level where simply getting ITM is no real goal for you (check your Bankroll-Management) - in this case the simply answer to your question is "Thank god for this hand and folding everybody around you - AND SHOVE!!!"

And last but not least: with A8 against KK you are less than a 3:1 dog (about 70:30)! Not a real desaster yet (until the river is dealt ) ...

Tackleberry.

Against what alot of people in this forum will say, I thinks its right to consider playing to cash in some circumstances.

If I'm right on the bubble, I will turn down a marginal +EV move if it has high variance, but it has to be pretty marginal.

This hand is not marginal, in fact if you turned your cards face up and then pushed, this would still be +EV.

Given its the bubble, there calling ranges are going to be even tighter, so its even more +EV.

You ran into a monster, bad luck, it sucks to bubble, but its great when you FT.

for tackleberry, 10th to 20th was identical and my main target is a top 5 finish.
