Phil Gordon\'s Books

Are Phil Gordon's Little Green and Blue book worth reading to improve my no limit holdem tournament strategy?

Yes.

(But the Harrington series and possibly the Fill Tilt Tournament Guide are better if you havn't read them yet.)

I read the first one. Meh, good, but nothing there I hadn't seen before though. The idea of varying bet size by position has merits, though I wouldn't use it the same way Phil does as you end up betting more with worse hands on average.

HoH is still far and away the best for tournament poker. Combine HoH with NLTAP and ToP and you've got about as good as you can get for NLHE tournament education.

I like little green, and just ordered the audio book version.

Little blue is ok, but grunching in the forums is probably a better use of your time.

I liked the green book, but not the blue one.

I like the 3 book set if you're new to poker. If you've played a bit already, I like hoh much better. I also like the ftp book.

I think Phil Gordons books are good in that they are easy to understand and grasp. For a beginner they take up the concepts in a great way to learn the game. They are a good complement to HOH for those that want to learn how to play fundamentaly strong TAG poker.

Both helped me very much. I was brand new to poker and was a level '0' thinker. His Green/Blue book got me thinking about position/aggression/domination/etc. They're also a fun read. They are not for advanced player, but are great for taking a casual newbie to the next level.

Yes, Phil Gordon's Little Green is a good book that's worth reading. I haven't bought or read the Blue book and I don't intend to at the moment. So, I don't know much about the Blue book.

Some newer players will find the Little Green Book more approachable, easier to read than HoH.

Be warned: The Little Black Book is just a repackaging of Phil Gordon's beginner's book (Poker: The Real Deal), I bought it thinking it was something new... Bad Beat!
