A couple trivia questions...

Hi. This is my first post. I am a beginning player and I have a couple questions for Sklansky or anyone else.

First Q: In NL Hold'em (or any game for that matter), betting the turn... I'm 99% confidence that I'm ahead, 99% confident that my opponent is on a draw and 99% confident that if I bet all in he'll call me b/c he knows he has the right odds, is it correct for me to check it down, even though I know that I have the better hand? (If you need more details please let me know)

Question 2: What the worst nut hand possible?
Good luck w/ that one.

I look forward to your responses.

Re: A couple trivia questions...

question (1) suppose there is $100 in the pot on the turn and the effective stacks remaining are $25. Further suppose you know each others hands with certainty and you are a 50.1% to 49.9% favorite to win the pot at showdown. clearly the opponent has the pot odds to call any bet you make. If you both check you fold the river anytime he hits his draw and he folds anytime he misses it. So the current pot is a wash. However, if you bet the $25 to win his remaining $25 you have a 0.2% advantage which is an average of $0.05 per hand so you are better off betting even though he has the odds to call.

1)Yes, You absolutely need to bet

2) QQQ, because there is always a possible straight with JJJ.

Re: A couple trivia questions...

1.) put him all in -- there is no way he can be favored going
to the river if you have him beat at the turn.

the best draw i could think of would be a straight/flush draw
with 15 outs. Since there are 44 cards left in the deck; 15/44 =
34%. You're a 66% to 34% overdog, worst case scenario.

2.) on a random board, top trips. you'd have 10 outs to improve,
and this would limit his outs for the straight/flush draw.
you'd remove any cards that would pair the board. assuming,
2 hearts on the board, for example, eliminate 2 cards, so his
outs would then be 13, for about a 30% to 70%, you favored.

With a board Jack high, if you have three cards J->7 you have a possible straight. (JT987). If you do not have three cards J->7, you must have three cards 6->2 and a possible six high straight.

Q-T-7-5-2 (no 3-flush) has no possible straights

You have me beat. Who is the favorite?

You can win with any 6 (3 outs), J (3 outs), K (3 outs), Q (3 outs), 9 (4 outs), A (4 outs), and a club not accounted for with the six, nine, or ace (6 outs).

Hmmm... 26 outs? only to laugh when the 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] comes off on the river

25 outs. 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] not an out.
Try Omaha some time for huge draws.
