Problem with small bet in semi-big pot
Hi all,
What do you think of this? Hope you guys could give me some advice. On the low stakes that i'm playing at, 6-max sit and go's, i do pretty well. However, i'm a bit lost when this occurs (and it occurs several times in 1 tourney): Say for example, you hold KTs, you are in the big blind and it get min-raised pre flop. 4 others will see the flop. the pot lays for example 8x BB and all you get is 2 overcards. Now what happens most of the time, is that these guys on those low-stakes are raising 1x BB in these situations. The pot is 300 and these guys are betting 20 into it. Shoving with 3 people behind you isn't the right play on such a board... And what on the river? Calling 20 in a pot of 400 with merely King high? Or just let it go and save the 20? Where is the border? I feel lost playing these kind of pots... You certainly get the pod-odds to see a turn for almost free, but i have the feeling that you could save yourself 1 big bet in certain situations. Thanks |
Re: Problem with small bet in semi-big pot
Couple of thoughts:
1. There's nothing wrong with calling with good pot odds. Just remember that if your draw is long, you won't hit very often so it might seem like you are bleeding off chips. 2. Call on the river 20 into a 400 pot just for the information. You really need to figure out what these small bets mean. 3. Raise these bets early to see how they react. |

Yeah, thanks, that's so true.
Especially number 1, it seems you are bleeding off chips, not much that i hate more For number 2. well, i used to do that, however, not when there are people behind me. Perhaps that's wrong. I laid ATo down, when such a thing occured. The guy behind _did_ call the 20 in a 400 pot, and won the pot with A high, 9 kicker. Then i'm kicking myself and feel lost. However, thanks, i'll try to act like this. |
Re: Problem with small bet in semi-big pot
If five people see the flop at least one of them has an ace.
Somebody plinking at a big pot usually has either ace high, a very small pair, or he thinks he's being tricky with a set. Nevertheless, I think I'd pay 20 chips on the river just to see. One time in 20 king high might be good. |
