Preflop: On the Button Against A Raise (Pokerstars $11 Deep Stack)
 

Hi,
I'm just curious what the "right" play is, given the following situation:

PokerStars $11 Deep Stack No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t100 (9 handed, 30 min. blind levels) internettexasholdem.com

UTG+1 (t4418)
MP1 (t4820)
MP2 (t14695)
MP3 (t2315)
CO (t7125)
Hero (t3807)
SB (t4080)
BB (t7670)
UTG (t6350)

Preflop: Hero is Button with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">UTG+1 raises to t500</font>, 4 folds[/i]</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero to act</font>.

The player UTG+1 is a tricky/trappy player with a Limp rate of 40% and Preflop raise rate of 3%. He betted very aggressively in nearly every pot after the flop.

So, what is a "right" play in this situation?

i think you could push this. he may lay down something like 99 or TT here.

Calling seems sick IMO. You are going to be forced to lay it down after a lot of flops, and he may not pay you off if an A or K hits

i would put a nice sold re-raise in here, first you have position so if he calls you can see what he does on the flop. Also a nice solid re-raise looks a lot stronger than just going all in. He might call with his 10's or j's all in, but he might fold if he thinks he is beat. If you raise and he goes all in well, thats what you were gonna do in the first place. There is fold equity, i think, with a reraise here.

I really considered two possibilities:

It has all the advantages which Akeshish outlined. But it has in my view a serious flaw: After such a reraise i have only 1700t left. The pot is 150+500+2000= 2650t. So i would be already pot committed. So i would have to push on the flop, whether i hit the flop or not. [*] Push

Turn: (t7764) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>

River: (t7764) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>

Final Pot: t7764

Results:
UTG+1 has Ac Ad (two pair, aces and queens).
Hero has As Kd (two pair, queens and sevens).
Outcome: UTG+1 wins t7764.

Two things about the hand bother me:
<ul type="square">[*] Is it worthwile to risk all chips in this situation (competitive chip stack!) in the second hour of a Deep Stack tourney?[*] Should i have taken more attention to the low preflop raise rate of my opponent? In the aftermath it's pretty clear he has the bullets or the cowboys...[/list]What do you think about it?

you can just call his raise then act accordingly to the flop. no need to risk all your chips prelop against a guy who could be raising UTG with anything.

you can't do anything about running into aces make the right play and move onto the next tourney. Play to Win you got unlucky.

My first intinct was that he had at least JJ since he was very active without raising much. If ur in the 2nd hour he has only raised fewer than 7 hands or so.

I would just call and even if I hit I would be very careful since he could easily have AA/KK and made his set.

I am never pusing this...you have over 35 big blinds in a deepstack tourney. Re-raise to about 1500, if he pushed, you have a decision to make, but considering your read im thinking fold to a 4 bet push.
