Things NITS do...
 

I feel as though I've been playing real nitty lately, however, I'm having trouble identifying all the behaviors that would warrant this characterization. Can we construct a list here of the top ten things NITS do?

I'm thinkin along the lines of playing too tight preflop.
Not raising good hands, etc.

Anything a little more specific would be great too.

Assigning too tight ranges to villains, consequently not calling enough, not value betting enough. Especially in 6max, I actually think I'm too nitty on the river.

Overprotecting made hands. You don't want to eliminate all action, you want to invite bad calls (while taking into account implied odds)

Not 3-betting AK. Some people only 3-bet AA/KK. This is wrong imo, especially at 6max.

Did the definition of a NIT change over the last few months? I was under the impression that a nit is one who is very 'nit-picky' at the table. One who constantly makes it a point to explain the rules to everyone at the table. One who freaks out when there is an open seat at his table and demands the floor fill it immediately. Silly things like that.

When did playing tight adapt this term? Most nits play extremely tight but not all extremely tight players are nits. Am I wrong?

Yeah, you're wrong. A nit is someone who wont lag it up. He plays predictably and safely.

I think he will over estimate his opponents hands. He only plays his own cards, rarely bluffs and hates variance. Also, he is more likely to slow down on the turn and, as said before, wont value bet enough, esp last on the river.

It still is.

Nit is the prime part of 'nit-pick'.

Pretty much. Some loose players are nits too. The only good part of their game is the fact they know the rules.

Weak-tight isn't the same as a nit. Though a weak-tight CAN be a nit.

If you are playing one table, I find it hard not to be able to play close to optimally. Talk to any internet player and they are playing 4-6 tables optimally. If you are nitty, just stop sucking and learn how to play.
