Hello Folks I am wondering what is considered a very strong password? Also I am using NORTON 360 AND SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTORY is that fine or what else do you guys use? Thanks Again for your time. [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

What are you using the password for? For my desktop's login password, I have "". That is, I hit return on the empty screen. Now, this is just the user password, on a machine that's behind a (couple) firewall, that stays at my desk, so think it's plenty strong. If any of those changed (admin account, open to net, or laptop) I'd make it stronger.

The normal answers, by the way, are "Add numbers, punctuation, and capitals". This really only helps if you're concerned about people brute-forcing your account. I personally don't have many situations where people are likely to do this.)

Agreed. If you are talking about your actual XP login password, this doesn't really have any effect on internet security. It does have a short term effect on a random person walking by your computer and seeing your data. However, if someone has some time with your computer they will just run one of the many free programs out there to decipher your XP login password or even create a new one.

The login password is sort of like locking the door to your house. It's the smart thing to do but if a burglar wants in, all he has to do is break a window.

As for security, you won't find many fans of Norton here, but at least you're using an AV. A good AV, Spybot, Adaware, and a router between your cable/dsl modem and your computer is about all you should need.

Hi,

I have Norton Internet Security [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]which I keep up to date and use Spybot and Lavasoft - but I have not heard of the Router between the dsl and the computer (not that computer savvy) - can you elaborate on the purpose of doing this please and a rough cost.
