Atlantis Casino and Resort

Me and the wife are planning on a vaction to Atlantis and I was wondering what 2+2 had to say about the place.

What's the best time of year to go?

Best bang for your buck as far as which tower to stay at?

How much are drinks and dinner cause I don't think it's all inclusive right?

If you've been there do you have any advice as far as how to get the most out of your trip or what you would do differently if you went back? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

royal towers are nice, but i don't know if they are worth the increase in cost over the coral towers. food and drink is ridiculously expensive and you can't do anything about it. they pretty much have you over a barrel.

every time i go i mean to rent jet skis or scooters or something and i never do.

The worst day we had there was when we ferried to an island lagoon. It was far inferior to the beach at Atlantis. The pools and slides at the hotel are great. The food can be expensive - but much better than nearby places.

There is no poker in the Atlantis casino. There is NL holdem elsewhere in the Bahamas but the time charge seemed excessive...

I only stayed in the Royal towers and because of intermittant shower troubles (no hot water 5 days out of 7) they comped us 2 nights. The room was very nice and spacious. If I was doing the booking I would stay in the cheaper rooms because the facilities at the hotel are available for everybody. But then my wife would divorce me.

It's an amazing place, but RIDICULOUSLY expensive. A cheeseburger costs around $13. I don't know which tower to recommend, because it's always comped when I go. I suggest smuggling in a few two liters of pop to save money, because a can of coke is $3.50.

The jet ski's were great. You can bargain with the island people for sure. We got a great deal.

The most expensive time to stay is the winter. The cheapest is hurricane season in the fall and next cheapest the spring.

The Royal Tower is the nicest, then the Coral, and Beach. The rooms are not spectacular for the price, unless you pay a lot more than normal.

If you want to eat cheaply, eat in town. Also, there are much cheaper places to stay in the Bahamas than Atlantis. The fancier restaurants at Atlantis are mostly excellent, including the two restaurants at the Ocean Club and the steak place. Bimini Road or whatever is good, particularly for mixed drinks and authentic island food. The oriental reataurant in the casino is good. The Chinese restaurant is pretty bad. The Jewish deli and the Waters Edge are also awful.

Atlantis is very nicely done as far as the lobbies and so on. It is kind of a protective fantasy land that shelters you from the reality of a third world country. It seems a little like a plantation where the locals serve you. That being said, it is really a spectular place and I really enjoyed it when I stayed there twice with expenses paid for tournaments.

There are a lot of things you can do with boat trips, scuba diving and stuff like that around Atlantis or elsewhere in the Bahamas. The town of Nassua is filled with shops selling local crafts such as wood carvings and duty free goods, such as liquor, jewelry, and British goods.

Atlantis stinks.

First off, they're going to bend you over on price for everything. Then they're gonna hit you for a service charge of like 10% to 20% for everything - which I wouldn't mind, except none of that money is going to the workers.

There is not a decent bar in the entire place. This is bad. There was not one place I enjoyed having a drink.

However, the bartenders pour liberally; skip the beers and go straight to the mixed drinks. Also, I recommend tipping in cash for better service.

There is also no poker; this is almost as serious as the bar situation. Don't mind the rake at the other casino; the game (no-fold-em NL) is well worth the price. It's about a $15 cab ride to the other casino.

Atlantis DOES NOT stink!!!It's an absolutely amazing place. Yes it is expensive but well worth it. I'm sure it costs insane amounts of money to maintain the marine life. Just accept the fact that it will cost you an arm and a leg and you will have a great time.

As far as food goes, you can eat cheaply (regular restaurant prices) at the marina (i can't recall the actual name but there's a bunch of nice restaurants near the marina , Johnny Rockets is in there). There's a restaurant called Carmines (or something like that) that is really decent and upscale in decor at great prices and huge portions. Whatever you do, don't eat at the Chinese place on the resort, it is unauthentic, expensive and portions are tiny.

I would save my money by staying in the Beach tower (ur not going to be in there much anyways and rooms are fine) and spending that money on restaurants and activities.

No, it costs a ton of money to build those fancy new towers they're building.

It's not like they have a casino or collect rent from high-end retailers to help fund new construction..... wait, they do.

I'm all for squeezing a buck, but there's a point where it goes for expected to excessive to abusive to pound-me-in-the-ass expensive.

no doubt it's expensive. But I assume a lot of the money goes into maintaining their habitat. Plus, when I was last there a year ago, they were building new waterslides and stuff which is one of the best part of the resort.
