I already know tomorrow's right-wing talking point:

"Liberals use these kinds of tragic accidents to further their agenda. Liberal gun control advocates just love it when these things happen. They can't help but cheer when someone is critically hurt with a gun."

These things write themselves. Cheney shoots a guy in the face = liberals bad. Yawn.

So two reasonable, consenting adults undertook an activity with an acknowledged risk factor, were prepared for it, and resolved it amicably.

Well, I for one wouldn't want to restrict Cheney from participating in an activity where he might get blasted with a shotgun. So there's no problem on that front.

I guess my main beef is the lack of retaliation by Cheney's hunting companion. Maybe he'd then have some idea of what war is like and wouldn't be so quick to send young soldiers to die.

You've convinced me. Let's outlaw rock climbing, skydiving, white-water rafting, hiking, martial arts, children's playgrounds, and cutlery. I don't know how I ever lived without laws to protect me from accidents.

Cheney is pretty frail. If you clap your hands together fairly hard, he would probably have a heart attack. So, I doubt he could kill anyone without a gun.

I do get your point, though. Gunplay amongst Republicans should be allowed and even encouraged.
