best way to learn short-handed.
I used to 4-table full ring PLO games on pokerstars, going up to $100 (Yeah, I'm not that good). It seems that there aren't as many games as there used to be, at least during the hours convinient for me. I am thinking about taking a plunge to 6-max games.
I understand the theory behind it. Position, position, position, and increased aggression compared to full ring. So far I played a few short sessions of 6-max, steady winner at $25 and breaking even at $100, but the sample is definitely too small. Agression is not a quality that comes naturaly to me, so I'm having a hard time squeezing it out of me [img]/images/graemlins/blush.gif[/img] . So, the question is. Suppose my plan for the nearest future is to comfortably play shorthanded PLO $100, and perhaps eventually move up. What is the best way for me to get some practice ? Should I grind it out at $25, until I feel comfortable with different table dynamics, or is it useless for my immediate goal ? I remember Big Dave saying that really low stakes games will teach you some things you are better off NOT learning. Or should I take the bull by the horns and confront my discomfort at $100 ? For the record, my roll is around $2500, so it is also a question of being able to afford the learning experience. |

You should be fine for $100 6-max on stars. If you drop down below $1500 then drop down to $50. REALLY REALLY WORK ON TABLE SELECTION as a top priority.

about table selection - what is the best way to pick a good game, you think? Pot avg, avg saw flop are good indicators - I like to look for a game with high asf and low pot, it indicates a loose-passive game. But, what about data mining? Do you have certain pfr and VPIP table averages you look for? Or do you just look for 1-2 retards and try to get position on them? |
