Apparently, im disconnected right now?

im after waking my laptop up from hibernation and i went to open up Interpoker but it told me that i wasnt connected to the internet.....of course i did what i always do when im in doubt bout this kinda thing....i panicked

i then did my usual routine of clicking on my wireless icon and hitting "Repair"....it went through the usual steps but its telling me that it is unable to reconnect to the wireless network

now obviously, im connected at this moment in time and it has to be via the wireless connection cos its the only connection i have so....whats going on?

the icon is still telling me that i am NOT connected but even i know that that is wrong

ideas? help?

Restarting? Refresh wireless connections and reconnect manually. Then reboot the wireless router would be some ideas.

Maybe an IPCONFIG /RELEASE then IPCONFIG /RENEW

restarting did the trick....simple....both the idea and me for not thinking of it

as a matter of interest and for future reference, what does the above quote mean?

Go to a command prompt and type in the command "ipconfig /release" which will release the IP address your machine has from the DHCP server (likely your wireless router). "ipconfig /renew" will get you a new one. It's essentially the same thing as hitting the repair button in the connection properties.

The DHCP server maintains a mapping of IP address to MAC address (hardware address) on each network card it talks to. If that list gets messed up, the communication breaks down. Release/renew will fix the problem. If it doesn't, it's possible something is screwed up with the networking stack in your operating system, and a reboot will usually fix it. Power cycling (rebooting) the router is also a good option at this point as well.
