Critique My River Play
Game: $100 PL
Hero: $130 or so Villian: $120 or so I don't have the Hand in front of me but it went like this, Folded around to me 1 off the button, I pot it with A22J DS. Villain is in the BB and he calls Pot: $7.50 Flop: 34J Rainbow << I hit top pair, nut low Draw and Bet pot, Villain Calls Pot: $22.50 Turn: 34J8 <The 8 is a spade, giving me top pair, nut flush draw, and nut low. He checks, I fire out $10 (considered betting pot, but didnt want to scare him off. Villain calls. Pot: $44.50 River 34J8T <No flush, and Villain checks again. I consider what he could have and fire out a Pot Sized Bet *My thinking is he could be on 2 pair or a naked a2, or an a25 wrap, b/c he would have surely raised the turn with a set. I think that if he only has 2 pair, I can push him off, and if he has the a2 low, I got him 1/4ed.* Villian thinks for almost the whole time bank and just calls. Villain shows A234 and quarters me. If I was the Villian I would have reraised pot there, would that be a bad play? Should I have just checked behind on the river? |
Re: Critique My River Play
That would be a bad play of villain to repot with two pair and nut low, especially since you've indicated that you're not going anywhere. I'm sure V was pleasantly surprised to quarter you.
You could have potted the turn, so that if you hit, you could get it all in on the river. It was pretty clear from your description that Villain had something, so you needed a stronger high to pot the river. |
Re: Critique My River Play
Frank, what would you put him?
Do you think he folds a naked 2 pair here? I had no reads on him and he had only been at the table like 5-10 minutes. First time I played with him too. I do agree with you that I should have potted the turn, though. |
Re: Critique My River Play
I cannot tell you if V would have called your river bet with naked bottom two pair only, since that's an academic question.
Unless villain had the busted nut flush draw or a wheel draw, it's hard to imagine V arriving to this particular river with two pair without having played the flop and turn more aggressively. |
Re: Critique My River Play
i like the river play for quite a few reasons.
1) we will 1/4 villian quite often, so lots of value for us, and no1 can fold a low 2) we will fold out a lot of the marginal 2pr hands, which gains us lots of value because we take the full pot, not a 1/2pot-rake 3) looks bluffy (cuz ur line is silly looking), and u might get snap called by A(5-6)ish+pr overall i like it. btw, villian played this like garbage. so lucky you. had i been in the pot, you just lost 1/2 ur stack. cuz 2pr+NL (with ~100bb stacks)= felt all day |
Re: Critique My River Play
Frank: I had nut flush draw. I could only put him on a2, a25 by his just straight calling and no rasing.
My thoughts are looking pretty similar to yours Split. I was just making sure I was making a +EV play even though I got 1/4'ed this one particular time. And I find that taking lines that are a little different than normal has been getting my hands paid off lately because the big bet in the end looks like a bit bluffy |
Re: Critique My River Play
with TP on a fairly clean board the dynamics of ur hand change so much, in a very +EV way. the PSB off the end is very good Long run.
dont let results of one hand get u down or question a good play. |
Re: Critique My River Play
I havent read all the responses yet, but I think you should pot the turn.
On the river, he has been very weak the whole hand, but I don't always pot the river here. It's a definite value bet though. |

[/ QUOTE ] I haven't posted here in a while, but this is the worst advice in, like, ever. You have to be insane or the weakest piece of calves liver on God's green earth to not pot/repot/rerepotpot this with A2 and 2 pair. If you are holding A234 on this board and are afraid of being quartered more than you get 3/4 yourself then you need to play cribbage. With barbie dolls. |
