Donk Bet 99 on Flop..Better line to take?

My first post and as you can see, I have a lot to learn.

I've tried this line a bit in this situation lately with mixed results.

I'm trying to fold AK, AQs without dealing with a continuation bet.

Villian is classic TAG through 50 hands.
The other two in the hand both have vpip's over 50

What action is better here? Is this donk bet ok if only Villian and I were in the hand?

Couple things here -

If you're cold calling OOP with midpairs in a multiway pot, you're probably best taking a "flop or drop" approach - that is, if you don't hit a set, you don't put any more money in. In this spot, even if you aren't raised on the flop, if you get a call or two and the turn brings an overcard, a diamond, another 8, etc. - you're going to be in a terrible spot.

In a heads up pot, "donking" into probable overcards in this situation is much better. However, if you knew the villain had AK, would you bet the flop? If he has AK, betting the flop lets him off the hook and saves him the cash he would loose on a c-bet.
