Anyone use Nexgen chips at home?
After having my set of home chips stolen/lost, I am in the market for some new ones.
I don't have the highest budget, or particularly care to have the best out there, but I am looking for some decent chips. These Nexgen's have caught my eye: http://www.pokergamingproducts.com/p...-8002-1ks2.jpg Can anyone comment on the quality of these chips? My previous set was the very standard "dice" model that I am sure many home players are familiary with ($80 range for 500 chips I think I paid back in the day). I really like the color and design of these chips, and am looking for owner comments. Thanks. |
Re: Anyone use Nexgen chips at home?
Haven't actually used them, but i've played with some samples a buddy has and they are pretty nice. They are def. better than the old dice chips. They mimic the feel of clay chips really well. IMO, They actually feel kind of like clay casino chips that have been used for a while, without being quite as gross. I also like how the colors and edge spots look.

Re: Anyone use Nexgen chips at home?
I have a set of Nexgens just like this... Link that I purchased from Mr.PokerChips. We used them for well over a year at my home game and they still look like new today. I've since upgraded to a set of Desert Sands, but the Nexgens are still really nice chips for the price. They feel good and do not have that metallic "clink" that most of the dice chips do. You can check out a couple websites such as http://21ace.com/ and http://www.chiptalk.net/ and you'll find reviews for the Nexgens and you'll see they are highly rated. They are also very popular because they are the easiest/best chips to have custom labels printed for.
I really don't think you'll go wrong with a set of these chips. They guys at my game loved them and were sort of sad to see them go. I just got an insane deal on the Desert Sands that I couldn't pass up. Now I've got a buddy asking me to sell him my Nexgens. Good luck |
Re: Anyone use Nexgen chips at home?
To me nexgens suck but if you have to get them this is the best deal in town right now.
http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2....ROD_ID=1517597 But there are a few other good chips out there in your range right now. I like faux clays and at .045 each they are a great chip, I personaly have about 7,000 or them for large tourneys. |
Re: Anyone use Nexgen chips at home?
I recently purchased a set of 1000 Nexgen 8000 series in a birdcage carrier from Overstock.com (the link above). I needed a bigger set, and I couldn't quite stomach the price of going to real clay chips. Overall I've been very happy with the purchase, the chips stack and play well, are a nice step up from a dice type chip at a reasonable price, and in the games I play in locally no one else has Nexgens. The carrier does have a little bit of slop around the chip racks, so the may shift slightly during transport, and I'm not sure how much longterm abuse that carrier can take, but I'd guess less than an aluminum briefcase style case.

"To me nexgens suck "
why? Don't remember you talking about this here- maybe over at chiptalk? "I like faux clays and at .045 each they are a great chip, I personaly have about 7,000 or them for large tourneys. " 7000? whoa, how big are some of these tourneys, double-digit tables? |

[/ QUOTE ] I've been thinking about getting that item. How many of each color chip did you get? I can't seem to figure out that info from the description. If it's like what's in the photo, it looks like the set up is more suitable for cash games than it is tournements. |
Re: Anyone use Nexgen chips at home?
I also bought the 1000 "Las Vegas" set of Nexgens from overstock.com for my .50/1 & 1/2 cash games. I am also in the process of getting custom labels for them.
http://www.chiptalk.net/forum/poker-chip...city-poker.html I realize that they are not the best chips around, however, I really like them for the price I got them at. I like the color combinations (especially the blue and black chips) and they stack well enough for any game I will be hosting. I also like the texture compared to the super slick "dice" chips. |
Re: Anyone use Nexgen chips at home?
The over stock set comes with 300 white, 300 red, 240 blue,100 green, and 60 black. When I host games I primarily play cash games, but the set would work fine for a one or maybe 2 table tourney.
Those look like pretty cool labels jdeane. I'm considering labeling mine, but I haven't got around to playing with any designs. |

[/ QUOTE ] How a chip handles is more important to me than looks and the nexgens are to close to dice chips. They are to heavy, slugged, and to slippery. Also for less money you can get faux clays which are so close to real clays it is uncanny, sure they don't have edge spots but stacks of solid chips are a beautiful thing. Also if you lable them or lazer them they look even better. As for the large amount of chips I plan on being able to have 100 man tourneys with starting stacks of 43 chips ($10,000) chips) WSOP. I like chips on the table. Now my cash game set is made of all real casino paulsons except the $5 which are H molds. |
