steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s

ok, so i'm going to vegas next month, and we plan on eating at a nice steak place while we're there. from the old restaurant thread, it seemed delmonico's got a lot of hype, and we planned on eating there.

however, after looking at some online reviews, it seems like it's been kind of hit-n-miss. i get the impression that they kind of think they're hot [censored], so they might not work as hard as some other restaurants.

as an alternative, i'm thinking about craftsteak also. it's in a good location seeing that we plan on seeing KA afterwards.

any advice or better suggestions?

thanks in advance

I make a point of going to three places to eat when I am in Vegas:

In-N-Out Burger
Canter's Deli
Delmonico's

I have never felt that the service or people at Delmonico's is uppity. I have always had a great time and plan on having a great time Saturday at 5PM, which is my next scheduled visit.

I've eaten at both. You can't go wrong with either.

However, if given the choice, I'd go back to Craftsteak.

After your last trip report, you can probably sell tickets to your next trip.

Yes, you too can attend the Vegas Drunken Gambooling Fantasy Camp, presented by a 2+2 legend, for only $99.

I've been to both more than once....for the ambience and decor, Delmonico's. For the food, Craftsteak hands down. Delmonico's food is quite good but Craftsteak is superior. For a really really good meal if you have a few extra $$ Joel Rubichon is excellent.

i think the steak at nine is better than the steak at delmonico's. nine is loud though.

Craftsteak is the 2nd best steak I've ever had in my life.

The #1 slot belongs to a place in Madison, WI. You know, they're very close to the source there.

Edit to say I've never eaten at Delmonico's in Vegas. Actually my #1 is Johnny Delmonico's in Madison. Don't know if they are related, but I doubt it. (Delmonico is a cut of beef)

Never eaten at craftsteak but Delmonico's rules.

Last time I was in Vegas we ate at Prime. It was ridiculicious but its probably a 15% price markup from other prime steakhouses. Be sure to report on your trip. The last one was Best.Trip Report.Evar.

Re: steakhouses...mainly craftsteak vs. delmonico\'s

Too much of a good thing? I question coupling KA with Craftsteak because I maybe I'll want that 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) special scotch rock from Craftsteak's updated daily list. And I will want to linger over dessert and coffee and I will have eaten too much and you do need to be in your seat for KA 15 minutes EARLY! And I want to be reasonably alert during KA, the action is non-stop and all over the theatre.

So if you are going to do both in one setting, but sure to give yourself ample time between dinner and the start of the show.

At Craftsteak:

1) the scotch rules, as does
2) any potato side dish (I've done both the fries and au gratin),
3) hen of the woods mushroom side dish is an unusual find and quite good,
4) the sugar snap peas are always good,
5) if you are with the "little woman" the hangar steak is "right sized" (we NEVER order Filet Mignon, which is always like butter, FLAVORLESS butter) or do what we do, split a ribeye (the single serving, not the double),
6) for dessert the cinnamon monkey bread is the winner with coffee (and MORE scotch).

PS. I enjoy both Craftsteak & Delmonico's. We'll be staying at MGM next weekend and dining at Craftsteak.
