What would you do..

If poker in the US went away soon? My friend asked me last night and I actually had a harder time than I thought I would predicting exactly what I would do. Just curious what some of the people out there who are in a similar situation would do.

FWIW, I dont think this is going to happen, but it's at least interesting to speculate.

vegas, duh. Actually, probably get a normal job and focus fully on that without the temptation of being a full time pro gnawing at me 24/7

I'd probably cry and then move from Toronto to vegas.

Consider moving closer to a Casino-based area. I have a real-world job, but make about the same in poker as I do at my job. I hate my job. I enjoy poker. I did the poker pro thing in the past, it was profitable but I lost my "love" for the game. With the stability the job provides, poker is fun again since I'm not playing to put food on the table.

I'd like to think that all this is temporary. WIth the billions the online poker industry gets from the U.S., it's just a matter of time before the sites band together and form a strong enough lobby to make a difference.

Kind of n00bish/OT question but: how difficult would it be for a typical above average intelligence med-high stakes poker winner to make a similar living from stocks, real estate and other forms of investing? It's something I'm very interested in but haven't read too much about yet because I'm busy with other things. I'm just curious to know how good of a "backup" it could be.

It's hard to bluff a blue chip stock off the best hand. And Margin Calls can be far more damaging than marginal calls.
