I don't see any possible SB holding that you are beating here, except for complete stone-cold bluff. Well-played all the way, IMHO.

Villain may have trips. Bad play by him, good for you.
Villain may have an ace. Bad play by him, good for you.
Villain may have nothing.
Villain may have a nine. Good for you b/c the ace clears out all kicker problems.
But reads are always a help...

But "stone-cold bluffs", desperation bluffs happen. And often enough to make this a call, I says.

20% of the time?? Give me an example what villain could play to the river like this that may warant a stone-cold bluff at the end. I'll need to see him pull something like this before to start suspecting.

Because you have no read, it's an easy fold. With a read that villain likes to bluff, this is a tough call. You're calling to chop with another 9, lose to a 7, A, or a really slowly played pocket pair bigger than 9s, and to beat a pure bluff that was hanging around for too long.

Hmm.. OK. As I said Im twisted. And my recent experience would make this a call I think. Maybe I think wrong. Even better: so I start to learn something. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]
What are you afraid of here? Only an ace or trips, right?
So: would villain call down with an ace? Maybe.
Would villain call down with trips? Maybe. But probably not.
But: if they were (in both cases), I would have a note.
I am not sure if it is more than 15% clear that we are beat.
But I dont think so.

Not necessarily. By betting right away you're pretty much telling him you don't have the seven because you would probably slow play that, which leaves the nine or another small pocket pair (since you didn't raise preflop). When the Ace comes on the river that gives him a perfect bluffing opportunity. On the other hand he may have the seven and is slow playing you but it may be worth a bet to learn that about villian. At the same time, the pot isn't overly large so folding isn't a bad choice but I don't think it's the automatic choice. You're getting roughly 6:1 pot odds so a call is profitable if you think that villian could have a nine or be bluffing around 20% of the time in this situation.
