Switching from NL to Limit....

Any advice, I'm rereading SSHE, and considering gettting the dvd's.

Used to play 300max NL Live. What can I expect in the transistion.

Bet for value.

Limping w/ small PPs in early position for set value is less desirable.

Table conditions have to be right to play drawing hands preflop.

1. Learn pot odds inside and out.

2. Against decent opponents you have to really tighten up compared to NL. Implied odds don't pay the way they do in NL.

3. Learn to draw in multi-way pots. Making big hands in big pots is the way to beat micro- and small-stakes limit games.

4. Bluffing is a lot less important, value-betting a lot more important.

5. Learn to love variance. The swings are brutal, which also puts a lot of importance on always always being adequately bankrolled.

6. Learn 6-max as soon as you're comfortable with the structure. Everyone says that's where the action is.

7. Don't mis-apply the concepts you learn reading (etc.). I haven't seen an online full-ring LHE game over 1-2 (that didn't break in 20 minutes) in the last 3 months that fit the situations SSHE was written for. Don't get me wrong, its still the best book out there on small stakes limit, and its definitely still directly applicable to live games.

8. Cut back on the multi-tabling at first, if that's your thing. There's a lot more decisions in LHE and more to think about than in NL. Once you have the hang of it start adding tables until you find your comfort zone.

9. Pick up and start on these additional books (I would recommend this order, but whatever): Theory of Poker, Weighing the Odds in Holdem Poker, Holdem On the Come, HEPFAP.

10. Have fun!
