100nl 6max: AQ OOP

villain is a bad player, likes to call raises oop preflop, likes limping, havnt seen him do anything terrible postflop.

his stats are 33/10/1.5
and my stats at this table are 34/29/6.
Eff stacks - $115
Standard?

Hero raises to $4 with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], utg1 folds, villain calls, btn folds, sb calls, bb calls.

Flop($13) - T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Sb checks, Hero bets $10, Villain calls, sb folds

Turn($33) - 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
Hero bets $24, Villain calls

River($81) - 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
Hero checks, Villain bets $39, Hero calls

I would give him credit for at least two pair. Based on your read that he does not get out of line post flop, large river bet means he's got the goods. I like your bets on the flop and turn, but, after his turn call I shut down.

Block bet the river, he's calling with more hands that you beat than he's going to bet.
As played, call the river bet.

He was described an a terrible player. At this level I doubt Villian even knows what a block bet is.

Fold to the river bet. This is perfectly played if the river is a brick though.

Huh? Villain doesn't have to understand what a blocking bet is for it to work. In fact, if he is aware of the blocking bet strategy, that makes it a worse option for hero as it's possible we'll get bluff-raised.

Yes he does.

Villian calls flop and turn. If he has a pair it be c/c. A blocking bet does not make sense in this situation. This looks to me like a value bet from a flush.

If villian was OOP then I could see it being a blocking bet because it is a scary board and he would want a showdown. If he bet in position he is getting more value out of his hand, again it doesn't make sense to call this a block bet if he wanted a cheap showdown after it is checked to him.

Most likely it is a flush. If he had less, he probably checks. Villian should have bet less. 1/2 pot on the river is pretty chunky. How big a bet would you call here with AQ? $15ish?

Stackcheck, I think you misread disciple's post. Disciple wasn't saying that villain's bet is a blockbet (of course that wouldn't make sense, he's in position), disciple is advocating the hero blockbet the river instead of checking (check/folding or check/calling).
Its a perfect situation for a blockbet, because our read on villain is that he's loose, so he'll pay off with a lot of hands, and if he raises, we're almost sure we're beat.
