Categorizing HU openings
 

For discussion purposes, is there any standard for naming the openings, like they do in chess?

There are only a limited number of "moves" in a HU game, compared with the 1000s in chess, do you think it would be worth discussing a few in more depth so that we can flesh out the theory better?

In chess, most of the opening moves are categorized and have their own name. There are openings, variations, sub-variations...
E.g. the "Sicilian Defence" refers to the moves 1.e2-e4 c7-c5, etc.
It's a shortcut for naming the moves.

I know that. I like the Reti opening, myself (Nf3).

But what HU openings are we talking about? Maybe an example would help.

I think he's talking about how some people go all in on hand #2 and show a bluff, then play tight, or something light that.

A chess board has the same pieces regardless of how many times you play. In a HU holdem game, your cards will not be the same every time. Therefore it doesn't make sense to have a specific opening strategy regardless of what cards you get. I find this to be an odd idea for a thread.

I'll bite.

If I get a good hand early on I bet more than normal (fullpot instead of halfpot normally). It's amazing how often they will call me down with middle pair on a K93 board for half their starting stack when I have AK/AA/KK/KQ/KJ.

It also sets my image up as a big bettor, even if they fold on the turn.
