need a cool guitar solo

I get free (university-sponsored) lessons for the whole year and as part of that I have to transcribe a solo [i will learn the head too]. Problem is, I've been listening to mostly horn players lately and can't even think of a good guitar solo that I really like. So, I'm appealing to OOT and would like to hear some suggestions. I don't want any crazy fast boring shred stuff or modern nonsense-sounding crap. Just something interesting and cool; something that would make you go "wow, thats clever" when you're listening. You can try submitting me a trumpet solo too, that could be cool; don't really want sax because i can't hear what's going on all that well. Also can't be a cliff brown solo because I just got a huge book of his transcriptions and I don't want to cheat. Oh yeah, Joe Pass stuff is out - not looking to figure out too many chords.

For examples of what I'm looking for:
Wes Montgomery SOS take 2
Wynton Marsalis My Funny Valentine [theres a strange part i'm not sure is guitar-translatable]
Freddie Greene in Count Basie band Dream a Little Dream of Me
intro to mingus's moanin' [bari sax] too short though

So yeah, I'm just looking for suggestions. I have 6 weeks to transcribe it and I must perform it at the end. I don't mind working hard, but the difficulty should be reasonable. Given enough practice, I can play most things that aren't just insanely ridiculously fast - read: i can play most stuff out of the omnibook.

Hand on Heart - Steve Vai

Here's a video of someguy playing it with about 95% accuracy.

Re: need a cool guitar solo

does it have to be jazz guitar, or can it be a horn player?

some potential jazz guitar solos that sound about right for length and time involved are:

pat martino: sunny, or just friends
wes: no blues, from smokin' at the half note
pat metheny: all the things you are, james
grant green: miss ann's tempo
peter bernstein: brain dance
joe pass (not all his stuff is chord solos btw): night and day from for django
george benson: stella by starlight, I could write a book
kurt rosenwinkel: how deep is the ocean
ben monder: mistral. just kidding.

It can be a horn player for sure, just needs to be jazz and interesting... its gonna be pretty challenging for me if there is a really fast trumpet or sax line but I'd love to hear any suggestions regardless . Thx for those earlier ones, TM, I'm gonna check em out now.

I wonder if that JerryC guy had the same sort of situation that got him to arrange Canon.

An off the wall idea could be to take some old ragtime piano stuff and jazz it up and do it for the guitar.

I'm kinda unsure if you're supposed to create something new here, or just transcribe something by ear as close as you can get.

comments so far:

steve vai - exactly not what i'm looking for
zappa - cool, but long
martino - boring
benson - can't find it
ragtime - my instructor is cool so I could suggest pretty much anything and see if its doable, but ragtime is not my thing at all.
