There are three ways to play jacks...
And all three are wrong...at least that's the saying.
JJ UTG. Yuck. Full Tilt Poker No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.05/$0.10 7 players Converter Stack sizes: VorShot: $13.60 UTG+1: $4.70 MP1: $7.25 CO: $1.50 Button: $6.95 SB: $22.45 BB: $13.35 Pre-flop: (7 players) VorShot is UTG with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] VorShot raises to $0.5, 5 folds, BB calls. Flop: 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ($1.05, 2 players) BB bets $1.05, VorShot raises to $3, BB raises all-in $12.85, VorShot ... So he calls my preflop bet, and leads right out on this flop. First of all, i have no idea what that means when i see it. Call preflop, lead out on the flop? Real monsters go for a check raise here i assume. What i get from this bet is, "I have a good hand, but vulnerable and i don't want this flop checked through." Sound like a good guess? So he bets the pot on this flop, and i let him know i'm serious about my preflop raise and triple his bet. He pushes all in over the top. At this point i'm figuring that it's one of three things. -Set -Overpair? (maybe a slowplayed overpair here?) -Flush or strait draw (or maybe both) Either way, so what's the move here? |
Re: There are three ways to play jacks...
Villian really wants to get his money in the pot here... I think you have to fold. He could have; set, straight, combo draw, two pair, overpair, top pair good kicker, flush draw, straight draw.
Only the single pair is a great situation for you, rest are coinflips or you're a big dog. |
Re: There are three ways to play jacks...
at this level i hope you're calling all day long. there's no reason to push anything besides a fd on this flop. i also raise to 4 on the flop.

Re: There are three ways to play jacks...
I know people at this level are donks, but what is he playing like this that i am ahead of?...A7 maybe? or a hand like AK or AQ?
I did end up calling, btw...but what hands are getting bet, and then 3Bet AI that BB might have here? I've got no read, because at these levels, very few people stay for even 50 hands... (this guy has a total of 20 on my Poker Tracker as of right now) |
Re: There are three ways to play jacks...
Just play your over pairs for stacks, he could have anything. Trust me, i beat this level like a redheaded stepchild.

Re: There are three ways to play jacks...
*shrugs* Well i musta found either a lucky donk, or a tricky donk, because i called and they turned over AA.

I know people at this level are donks, but what is he playing like this that i am ahead of? [ QUOTE ] Well, I'd say TT, 99, 88, A7, 98, 87, 65, and [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] are the obvious choices. Occasionally you'll be facing AK, but not too often. You'll also occasionally be facing 55, 44, 22, and the occasional complete bluff. You're losing to AA, KK, QQ, 77, 66, 33, 76, and 54. Considering the overlay from the pot, I'd say this is a +EV call, but I'm not dancing a jig when I make it -- the call is fairly thin. Still, you can't walk away from this one. With 88 or worse I'd say this would be a fold. |
Re: There are three ways to play jacks...
I would call, you see alot of different stuff here, mainly pocket pairs imo.

Re: There are three ways to play jacks...
Yeah!
I would think set or overs and he is trying to discourage draws. |

[/ QUOTE ] Granted I don't play this level... but any decent player who knows how to get value out of his hand will bet and hope for a raise. I would lead here with a set, 2 pair, straight, etc. almost always as well as a hand like AKs or A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3 |
