Thoughts on Theme Parties

When you go to a theme party where dressing to the theme is not required, do you do it? If you are going there to pick up girls, do you think you have a better chance if you dress the theme, or if you "be yourself" and don't try to act all tacky. Do you ever feel out of place when you don't dress up? Feel stupid and awkward when you do?

I'm going to a country/western theme party at the campus bar tonight. Normally I don't dress up for these type of things, but tonight I've decided to sport the cowboy hat and belt buckle to see how it goes.

Just curious to hear others thoughts on the subject.

Hey, I went to DKE's western theme party 2 years ago and a lot of the people weren't even dressed up. I'm guessing that you're going to the Pit tonight and I think that there will be quite a few others who won't dress up so you *should* be fine. It's not as pronounced as Halloween when EVERYONE dresses up - in an occasion like this, you'll have to dress up or else you'll look like a douche.

Yea, it was at the Pit. I went sporting my country gear, and actually I was the one who felt out of place. Maybe 1 in 10 people were dressed up, if that. Probably because a lot of the people had just come from the Ski&Board beer garden or the football game. I think for future reference, unless its Halloween or a basically mandatory thing, I'll just go as myself.

the only theme party i will likely dress up for this year will be halloween (not sure what yet, but either v for vendetta or JP from grandmas boy,) the rest are simply exscuses for hot girls to wear next to nothing and not be called [censored] by all of the other ugly jealous girls.

wearing a cowboy hat isn 't exactly going all out when it comes to dressing up...last weekend for an anything but clothes mixer with a sorority, i stole a banner from their rival sorrority and turned it into my outfit... and yes it;s easier to pick up girls if you dress to the theme and don't give a [censored] about what they think about what you are wearing... with girls it;s all about your confidence. if you are confortable dressing up, there is no reason not to

I usually dont dress up for these either. I see no reason to most of the time, as its just an additional annoyance. And since 1/2 the theme parties around here are graffti parties, I stopped doing it cause I only have limited undershirts.

I like to do it. If nothing else, it's a conversation piece.

I find its easier to socialize if I participate a bit in the dressing up.
