Tipping on the circuit
 

I've got a friend who works at the Borgata, and she was telling me the tips were extraordinarily poor from the top two finishers in the main event ($15k and $2500). From what she tells me, Mr. Sklansky, the 3rd place finisher, tipped over half what the winner tipped ($8300) and Chris Bell tipped almost as much as the winner ($12k).

I've always tipped 3%-5%... This is a sick state of affairs when someone wins $800k and tips $2500. My question is what is considered a 'normal' tip?

A long long long time ago i actually won a tourney in AC and they told me 3 percent was a standard tip.

5 percent of a million would be ridiculous. But i suppose somewhere between 2 and 3 percent is probably expected.

I would not necessarily blame the participants.
With all the controversy over the World Series tips and sometimes people who win these things are internet players who dont know what there supposed to tip that is how it happens.

The real problem is you cant trust the casino to chop out the 3 percent because they have always taken advanatage of the situation to pay floor people and asked for more tips.

If 3% is withheld, I usually tip 1-2% extra. If nothing was withheld, and I feel the staff did a good job, I usually tip 4-5%. FossilMan has written extensively about tipping and considers this kind of policy a little absurd.

Of course, I've never had a cash so huge that 1-5% would amount to anything too insane, so I don't know what I would/will do when that happens.

When I cahsed my biggest at Commerce, I also found out that it was "customary" to tip-out media and security.

Yeh, its sick that he decided to leave anything after what was withheld and people like you berating his generosity.

Nick... I didn't think of it. Since there was some talk about the tournament itself here, I decided to post here. Next time...

Scott... My friend told me that well-known pros generally tip 5%. For example, the Borgata Open that Daniel Negreanu won he tipped $70k, and his win was not $1.5M.

Jose... I just know what I normally do and what I thought was normal, and then wondering if I'm overtipping or if the top two winners in this tournament were just cheapskates.

shaniac... I'm the same way, although I've never cashed in a tournament that had tips withheld. As for security, it is my understanding that they got a piece of the tip pool. But I'm in Atlantic City, so it may be different here than it is in California.

bogey... Nothing was withheld, so out of $800k the second place guy tipped $2500. You can figure the percentage. At least the winner tipped 1%. Pretty weak, but something at least. Before jumping into a thread that you know nothing about, you should have SOME information. Finally, one of the waitresses told me the second place guy came back later and tipped her and some of her coworkers $500 each. Again, really sick, in my opinion.

If someone gives you $15000 to deal cards for 24 hours, would you? Obviously yes. So why the hell is anyone complaining about the "only $15000" tip? [censored], i'd do it for $10000 easily, and the dealer got alot more than 15k.
