What Is the Percentage of Luck in Limit Hold\'em?

In Limit Hold'em, what percentage of the results are a factor of luck? Chose the closest amount to your awnser. Please post comments, calculations, and justifications separately.

Calculations? Justifications? I'm not sure what either of these would be based upon.

If you specified a length of time, it might be possible to calculate some sort of vaguely meaningful number for this. In the general case, this question has no meaning.

You could make a value judgment or statistical conclusion comparing the percentage of luck in LHE results to that of other games, such as chess (LHE has more luck), I guess. But I think that's as far as you can go.

The luck comes in having your hand hold up. In Limit "no fold em hold em" surviving suckouts by your opponents is mostly based on luck. Skill such as raising to give incorrect odds do not work they will call a gutshot or draw to a set for 2 or 3 bets, I am talking live not online.

Live, Luck 40%
Online Luck 80%

If you understand the idea that luck is just variance, then you should clarify your question and give a time frame.

If you're talking about one session, luck is very important. If you're talking about an entire lifetime of poker, luck becomes a non-significant factor.

As the number of hands played (sample size) approaches infinity, the impact of luck (variance) disappears.

Hmmm, good point. I can't edit the Title Post anymore.

I'll make the timeframe = 1 session.

I wouldn't be able to guess a percentage, but for only one session, luck is a big factor. And thank god it is! That's what will make the guy who hit his two-outer on the river come back tomorrow night and pay you off.

In any given session a monkey could beat the best player in the world. But that one win will keep that monkey coming back to play for quite a while.
