I lost my job today - next play?
 

So today my company issued a reduction in force mandate. Essentially me and 70 others got the axe. The worst part is I've only been there a month. They wanted me to take a 28k pay cut and for the distance I drive, it wasnt going to happen. So I got a job interview lined up on Monday which seems good (pays to not burn bridges), but I've been wondering. I'm probably going to take the next job that offers insurance (i got kids), and then go from there. If the job on Monday works out, I'll be pretty good because I had a previous offer from them before.

Part of me wants to go back to doing collections on the side becuase I've been good at it and its awlays awesome money. Other half of me wants to pull my bankroll out (about 5k) until I'm secure in another job. I also have some web design deals that I got lined up that will be bringing in maybe another 2 - 6k within the month.

Pull the bankroll. Is there really any better of a way to use your bankroll than as a rainy day fund?

With my savings and my bankroll, I can probably go 3 months without a job. I'd prefer to start a new job next week and be back int the mix obviously.

With the web deals and two or three collections, I can easily make a new bankroll. So thats a good point, and thanks Angus / Tex for your wishes.

I got downsized one time. Turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me as I chose to change careers into something more lucrative.

May I ask how much you made that they wanted you to take a 28k paycut?? That's huge!

I was offered 50k , which I refused (not because I'm greedy but because I had offers in the 50k ranger closer and it was a 74 mile one way drive). Then they came back with 65k a few days later.

So to answer your question, 65k.
